History of the CHAMP Cup
Historically, the CHAMP Cup has been held in May. The CHAMP Cup is run on Sunday, in place of Best in Field each day of that trial weekend. It's criteria is that the Best of Breed winners from each day of that weekend are drawn to run a final Best In Event run. Also eligible to run are any past winners of the CHAMP Cup. They don't have to have won Best of Breed that weekend to be joined in the draw. (Best in Event is not an ASFA sanctioned class.) In years past, the CHAMP Cup was called the President's Cup as it was held on the grounds of Montpelier, home of President James Madison. In the recent past, we changed it to CHAMP Cup to honor founding member Pete Smith. We also haven't run that trial on the grounds of Montpelier for the last several years.
